Allow Me To Introduce Myself by Onyi Nwabineli

 Hello my lovely readers!

I've been reading a lot more fiction than anticipated this year! Here's another novel that surprised me. Let's get into it.

SYNOPSIS
Ever since she was a child, Anuri’s life was chronicled and monetized by her influencer stepmother. Now an adult, she’s finally broken free. But when her stepmother starts preying on her young half sister, Anuri decides she must stop the cycle of abuse.

MY THOUGHTS
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The plot was fresh and a great critique on our society, the characters were complex and multi-dimensional. Even the "best friends" were portrayed as real people and not the stereotypical, "You go girl, you know we've been best friends forever" expositional type like they usually are in contemporary fiction.

I first listened to this book on Libby and enjoyed it so much that I had to buy a physical copy. I hate that we're in a time where we can monetize our children and exploit them on social media, so I loved that this novel shows the damaging effects it can have for kids who are constantly shown online. I imagine that we're going to hear from more children who were used for social media content in the future.
